More State Wrestling

I also spent Saturday night shooting state wrestling ... in Hays ... also for the Topkea Capital-Journal. How funny is that? I also worked there, but as an intern once-upon-a-time-ago (1999-2000).

I had seven fellas in finals.

In wrestling, there are a lot of rear ends, and I usually edit them out (i.e. they never see the light of day), but this one wasn't obscene, and the framing of the poor fellow on the bottom is nice.

I have to say I'm pretty jealous of the fantastic athlete reactions Mike was able to get. The guys in Hays were a bit more calm, but not the coaches....

... or the cheerleaders. This is the first time I've seen such enthusiastic cheerleaders at state wrestling.

These two matches weren't for Topeka, but I was there anyway, and it's been a whole year sinc I've shot wrestling, so I shot them anyway.

And the winner is ...

This marks the last year that the 5A-6A state wrestling meet will be held in Wichita and I covered both days for my old paper, The Topeka Capital-Journal. There was a small contingent of Topeka-area wrestlers in the meet, but only two – Shawnee Heights seniors Jared Brown (above, celebrating an overtime championship victory in the 160-pound match) and heavyweight Chris Holly – advanced to the finals. It was also good to see former Heights coach Bob Gonzales, who now coaches Manhattan, which won the Class 6A team title. He's a super nice guy.

Amanda's Pregnancy Portrait Session

Amanda's such a BEAUTIFUL mother — and little "squirt" hasn't even been born yet! We spent a few hours together Friday afternoon, photographing Amanda and "squirt" as they're calling it.

Every time I see a pregnant woman, I'm in such awe of the beauty of the curves of her body!

Vince is amazingly expressive. It was so beautiful to see how much Amanda lit up once Vince joined us during the session.

Amanda told me that half way through their first childbirth class, she asked for another partner — and seeing Vince with Amanda's beautiful belly, I can see why it would be hard to be serious!

This is the baby's room! Since Vince is re-finishing the furniture, it was empty, so we took full advantage of the beautiful room for some more cozy time.

Thanks, guys, for allowing me to photogrpah your expanding family. I had SO MUCH fun ... narrowing it down to post a few here was amazingly difficult! ;)
