Deanne + Carlos' Engagement Slideshow

Time has completely flown since I took Deanne and Carlos' engagement photos in Georgetown!

The one thing that stood out to me as I was working on their slideshow was how the bulk of the photos are of JUST them. Despite the crowds that were around Georgetown, we were able to find some private spots and take some beautiful photos of *just* the two of them. Sort of feels as if there's no one else in the world .... which is how I think a lot of engaged couples feel. ;)

Thanks for a wonderful evening in Georgetown, Deanne and Carlos! Please CLICK HERE to view your engagement slideshow!

Happy Anniversary, Lori + Derek!

Has it really been a year since Lori and Derek were married????

Mike and I were welcomed so warmly into Windom, Kansas to photograph their wedding. It was one heck of a good time, and we were honored to witness the fusion of two lives and two families.

On a purely selfish note, I'm pleased Lori and Derek have moved from the great north of Chicagoland to live in rural Kansas. They're not exactly neighbors, but I do enjoy stopping by the farm to say hello. :)

Rachel + Jarrod's Engagement Slideshow

I had SO much fun photographing Rachel and Jarrod's engagement session in Salina.

My travels have disrupted the normal flow of my editing, but I'm happy to be back on track!

Like me, Rachel is a hopeless Harry Potter fanatic. The kids table at her wedding? Harry Potter-themed. If I go missing, you all will know where to find me. ;)

Ok, so in all seriousness .... when she filled out her engagement questionnaire prior to the session, she talked about how they took turns reading the final installment of Harry Potter to one another, alternating chapters. How awesome is that?!?!? Love it!

So I KNEW I wanted to incorporate a few books into their session. So we found a cherry blossom tree and made ourselves at home.

This last one is from my new super-secret, favorite location in Salina. We happened upon it during our session, and I just love it when an accidental discovery is golden.

Rachel and Jarrod's wedding is in about THREE WEEKS!!!!! And it's going to be ultra-fabulous. So, while we all count down the days until their wedding, please CLICK HERE to enjoy my faves from their engagement session in Salina.

Sneak Peek — Kim's "Just Because" portrait session

Every once in awhile, you need to do something for yourself ... just because.

Because you're a woman. Because you're fabulous. Because you got a fantastic hair cut. Because it's spring. Just BECAUSE.

Kim decided she needed to update photos of herself just because, so I was happy to oblige.

And doesn't she look utterly fabulous!??!??!? :)

I've only edited a small portrait of her session, but it's magnificent!

More photos of Kim to come, as well as the engagement slideshow of Rachel and Jarrod, as well as Deanne and Carlos.

Andrea + Larry's Engagement Album

For Andrea and Larry's engagement album, we switched things up a little bit.

We went with some thicker pages for them.

With thicker pages comes a thicker binding.

The "new" version of the engagement album is on the left ... thicker pages. The "traditional/original" is on the right. See what a difference? Our original ones are made with a regular paper, much like the paper in a photographic book you'd buy at the bookstore.

I wanted to order one of each of the exact same book so we could see a side-by-side comparison.

And now I'm wondering if there's a place in our offerings for the "original/traditional" books. So ... clients ... what do you think? Do you want to see only a thick page offered? Or would you like the option of the thin pages? Let's hear your feedback so we can best serve your needs.

I'm not sure why ...

this photo amuses me so much, but it does. :)

We photographed around the Eastern Market in Washington DC today. It was close to closing time, and I was feeling a bit silly. So there you have it. A recipe for a photo with fruit in place of faces. I guess on the flip side, if someone wants to do an ad campaign about getting your fruits, here's a great start to one! ;)

Ok, a little more serious photo from today.

A little bit of rock'n'roll.

I'm still on the road traveling in the DC area, so editing is very SLOW going .... so sit tight and stay tuned for more later this week!

Happy Anniversary, Erin + Shane!

Last year, Mike and I had an amazing time in Lawrence on the KU campus photographing Erin and Shane's wedding.

Recently, we were saddened to hear Shane's grandmother passed away. Erin quickly wrote, asking for a specific photograph of his grandmother. Evidently it was the most recent professional photo that was taken, and I was all too happy to quickly have prints made and sent to the family. Sometimes, I need this little reminder that we're capturing such very precious memories. Not just of the bride and groom, but of other loved ones. In this family's case, they'll look back on the photo of their grandmother from Erin and Shane's wedding with such fond memories of the day.

Please CLICK HERE to revisit their awesome Lawrence wedding. And for those of you who are curious, photo 50 is the image the family requested. I remember so vividly taking that image during Erin and Shane's first dance. They were sharing a beautiful moment as husband and wife, and I happened to turn and see his grandmother, just grinning with such joy.

Erin and Shane, many blessings as you continue on in your married life!

Sneak Peek — Deanne + Carlos' Engagement Session

Dear Deanne and Carlos,

You two are too fabulous for words.

Seriously.

Love, Karen

ps-Ok, ok, ok. More photos from their FABULOUS Georgetown engagement session coming along in the next week. Just a few teasers for now! If you're not already a Facebook Fan of Heartland Photography, be sure to become one ... because if I do any more editing on the road, I'll probably add more teasers there.

Amber + Bret's Wedding Album Design

I'm SO excited to share Amber and Bret's wedding album design! Amber wanted something a little different ... she wanted to include some engagement photos in the album design. So we said "Heck Yeah!" Our amazing Amy wove together a nice design for them.

It's a bit unusual because it starts off with some text. Because Amber and Bret wrote their own vows, I suspect we might sub in some of their actual vows/text, but this is a great starting point!

To view their beautiful 30-page album design, please CLICK HERE.

(See, I TOLD you we had lots of stuff coming up on the blog! And there's still more to come!)

Update your bookmark, please!

Hi friends!

A quick note to let you know we've updated our Blog .... please update your bookmarks/feed to: www.heartlandphotographyblog.com. It's more of a cosmetic change, nothing major has changed (yet). ;)

Happy Tuesday!

Sneak Peek — Rachel + Jarrod's Engagement Session

I can hardly stand it!!!! I am just bursting to share the engagement photos I'm editing.

But, I'm holding myself to two and only two photos for now.

All sorts of stuff to blog, so stay tuned!

Sneak Peek — Amber + Bret's Wedding Album Design

A quick teaser from Amber and Bret's amazing wedding! This album will be super-special because Amber asked us to incorporate a few of their engagement photos into the album.

It's shaping up beautifully, and I'm excited to share the whole thing in a few more days!

A quick note about this spread .... Amber and Bret included "wire splicing" in their wedding. It was so personal to the two of them and totally unique to any wedding we've documented thus far. It's just spectacular to put together albums with these oh-so-personal details of their wedding day. :)
