{Anniversary} Rachel + Jarrod

Rachel + Jarrod were married one year ago in Salina's Oakdale Park, where I made this image immediately following the ceremony, before heading off to the reception at Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventures. In looking back at their wedding portfolio, I could have chosen any one of about a dozen images for their anniversary post. They were great sports during our before- and after-ceremony portrait shoots and their receptions proved to be a lively event, as well. You can see for yourself by clicking here!

Rachel + Jarrod's Wedding Album is IN! :)

Another stunning album in! This time it was Rachel and Jarrod.


Generally, we stay away from black for wedding albums (I can only think of one other), but if we do so, it's for a purpose.


Rachel and Jarrod are a bit rock 'n' roll, and Amy asked me if she could "get a little creative" with their album design. I told her to go to town, and she delivered! These fun swirls tie in with their invites.


Hot pink and black look ... well ... hot together.


This little graphical element is fun. Especially since their last name starts with an "M" ... just a fun little detail. :)

Rachel + Jarrod's Wedding Album Design

This album has a little bit of rock 'n' roll in it ... but of course, that's because it's Rachel and Jarrod!

Our spectacular graphic designer pulled the graphical element from their wedding invitations and wove them throughout the album. It's totally sick (in the best way possible!).

Sneak Peek - Rachel + Jarrod's wedding (part 2)

Last week I posted the first of two sneak peeks into Rachel and Jarrod's wedding here. Following the ceremony in Oakdale Park, we took off for the Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventures, where about 90 of their closest family and friends were waiting to congratulate them. To get there, we passed through the tiny hamlet of Hedville. I spotted an old garage and just had to stop. Karen spied this old, broken down flatbed truck around back. Fortunately we had a beautiful bride in tow so we broke out in a mini bridal session, which drew quite a few looks from passers-by.


Absolutely. Amazing.


Karen has a thing for photographing shoes like I have a thing for photographing automobiles.


It's always refreshing to work with couples who will go along with our sometimes seemingly quirky ideas. "Hey, just go stand over there." Perfect!


Rachel steals a kiss. I think it was hard for Jarrod to resist.

Sneak Peek - Rachel + Jarrod's wedding (part 1)

We photographed Rachel and Jarrod's wedding last Friday in Salina. They went to a lot of trouble making some incredible details for their wedding.


I thought these favors were the cutest things!


Rachel and Jarrod agreed to see each other before the ceremony. We love it when our couples decide to do that! This gave Jarrod a chance to relax (he'd been extremely anxious all morning) and allowed us to complete the formal group photos before the ceremony. That gave us more time to romp and play after, which we did! More on that in Part 2. ;)


Despite a week's worth of miserably dreary weather, the sun came out for their wedding. And good thing, too, considering it was held in Salina's Oakdale Park.


Small crowd? Nah, only immediate family were invited to the ceremony. Everyone else celebrated with them at the reception.


And what a reception it was! Thanks to Clinton, Rachel's step-brother and deejay, for making their grand entrance (and this frame!) truly remarkable!


The reception was held at Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure. Because we got carried away on a mini bridal session between the ceremony and reception (did I mention something about a Part 2?), we weren't able to spend any time inside the zoo. But, we were able to incorporate the surrounding just a bit!


After the formalities of the reception were over, Rachel changed out of her wedding gown into this cute vintage dress where she was the life of the party on the dance floor.


And Jarrod donned this stylish fedora. By the look on his face, I'd say he got over his nerves!

Rachel + Jarrod's Engagement Slideshow

I had SO much fun photographing Rachel and Jarrod's engagement session in Salina.

My travels have disrupted the normal flow of my editing, but I'm happy to be back on track!


Like me, Rachel is a hopeless Harry Potter fanatic. The kids table at her wedding? Harry Potter-themed. If I go missing, you all will know where to find me. ;)

Ok, so in all seriousness .... when she filled out her engagement questionnaire prior to the session, she talked about how they took turns reading the final installment of Harry Potter to one another, alternating chapters. How awesome is that?!?!? Love it!

So I KNEW I wanted to incorporate a few books into their session. So we found a cherry blossom tree and made ourselves at home.


This last one is from my new super-secret, favorite location in Salina. We happened upon it during our session, and I just love it when an accidental discovery is golden.
