{Newton Wedding Photography} Alex + Seth

Alex + Seth were married almost two weeks ago during a ceremony at Grace Community Church in Newton.




A few nice moments right after their First Look. This allowed us to capture some fabulous portraits of the couple at a different location following the ceremony.


The groomsmen were all given new boots for the occasion. They had to do a little scuffing in the parking lot so nobody slipped during the ceremony.








Following the service, we headed east on US Highway 50 to a remote spot that Karen scouted previously to do a few romantic portraits.


With the bridal party in tow, we included them in a few shots then shooed them away so that we could capture some stunning images of Alex + Seth by themselves.




See? STUNNING. We have SO MANY favorites from our romantic portrait session with these two.






Back in Newton, they couple and their guests partied well into the night at the Meridian Center where DJ Ryan Funck from Absolute Sound kept the party going.

{Party Planning} "Love is Sweet" Bridal Shower by P.ink Creative

Recently, Gretchen from p.ink creative contacted me to ask about photographing a bridal shower she planned. Gretchen helped out with our fantastic editorial shoot last year, and I knew she'd bring something fabulous to the table.

Over the last few years, I've done my share of planning bridal and baby showers for friends/family. It's a TON of work, and putting together a fabulous shower is certainly an art form. So I asked Gretchen for some tips (for those of you out there who are planning showers/parties of your own!).


Theme: "Many times the theme will dictate the colors, for example on this theme the colors are pulled from the iconic candy necklace. On a color theme like this where there are multiple colors, by grouping things of just 1 or 2 colors together, a clean look is still achieved. By keeping the base palette (i.e. the servingware and tablecloths) neutral your "themed" and colored items will pop."


Of course, with a "Love is Sweet" theme, candy abounded. :)


Table arrangement: "Be creative. I'm always stealing decor from around our house like shelves (those white boxes on the table are shadow boxes off our wall) or vases to add height and dimension to a table."








Food Tables: "My biggest tip for decorating for a shower is to place food tables against a wall. When a table is in the center of the room there is no front and back and it is very hard to create a nice presentation for your food. By pushing a table up against a wall you give yourself a clear front and back and allow for the use of a backdrop."

From my own experience, pulling from what interests a bride or mommy-to-be is a great way to start the planning process. For example: A Mad Hatter's Tea Party baby shower for those who love a good cup of tea or A Winery tour/trip Bridal Shower/Party for those who like a good glass of vino.

It's been fun to watch my brides go from wedding planning to baby planning. I've seen fun themes emerge for baby showers, such as a Dr. Seuss themed party (which sounds like serious fun!).
