Ahhhh, Amy & Matt's family ... I love our annual fall portrait session in Wichita. With 4 kiddos, sessions can be tricky, but Amy told me "I just want ONE PICTURE for our Christmas card." ... I think we got it, mama! I know how tricky 3-year-olds can be, but we managed one moment of calm! :)
The outtakes from this session are so classic - if I get permission, I'll be sure to share, because they're a scream!

{Lawrence Family Portraits} Joyce + Billy
I'm fortunate to have some very wonderful friends. This is Joyce, my dear friend. She lives in Lawrence, and when I called and asked if I could bring a couple by the next day for engagement portraits, she was like "Sure!!!" Just love her! And her amazing backyard. :)
After I finished with Meghan & Brock's engagement session, Joyce asked if I would grab a few "quick pics" of her family. Of course, I was happy to say "Sure!!!"
Her husband, Billy, is just awesome. I adore this entire family. If you need any construction work done in Lawrence, Billy is your man - info HERE.
Joyce's little boy is almost exactly 6 months older than mine, so it's fun to visit her and see what he's up to ... and then wait for my little fella to start the next phase. :) And her little girl has had this MOP of hair since Day 1 .... like my little dude (except I think she actually has MORE) ... so it's always fun to see them both.
If I were to title the photos at the right, it'd be "Life with a 2-year-old." If you have or ever had a 2-year-old, you know what I'm talking about! ;)

{Yorktown Heights, NY Family Portraits} Gillian + Scott
It's always fun to be greeted at the beginning of any portrait session ... Scott and his entire family were on the front porch, waiting for the fun to being. So, of course, we started there! Sometimes, a potential client will question why I prefer to do some portraits at home ... and the familiar background is so helpful for little people. Plus, it really helps to tell the story of your life .... where you are at that exact moment. :)
It was a joy to spend part of my recent trip to NY/NJ photographing Scott's family. We were friends out in Hays, when we were both working in journalism. I was at the paper, he was at the community TV station and we both liked to talk shop about photography.
Last week was the first time I met his wonderful wife, Gillian. She's about the most warm, welcoming person I can imagine! Welcoming this complete stranger into her home, at Scott's instance, for family photos. Not to mention she seems perfectly matched to handle her husband!
Cute little boys need snacks during sessions, and Dad was keeping him entertained until it arrived.
Again, LOVE photographing families in their homes. Such a sense of place.
Both Gillian and Scott are gaga over their little guy. It's hard to blame them!
Ok, one more with G & little J. I just love mother/son moments. :)
We went back & it was time for little man to get ready for bed ... I love the photojournalistic aspect of family portraits. Capturing life in the element, as it happens.
Gillian & Scott ... thank you for making time for some family portraits while I was in New York! It was such a pleasure to reconnect with old friends and to meet their new families!!!

The ENTIRE family ... pets are part of the fam, too!

I spoke with Scott several times about what sort of pictures he wanted. He kept coming back to wanting something "Dramatic with the sky." ... I'd say we got it!

{Kingman Newborn Portraits} Caty + Tyler's newest addition :)
It's always such an honor to document a couple's wedding day ... and Caty & Tyler have invited us back for other events, as well. Mike captured some anniversary portraits, then some extended family portraits in the years since their wedding. But this year, I had the complete privilege to photograph their sweet daughter, Miss H. Oh, she's just so precious!
Mommy snuggles are just the best!
You might remember from Caty + Tyler's wedding photos that Tyler is a volunteer firefighter (post HERE) ... and they wanted to include some of dad's fire gear .... which is probably my favorite picture from the entire session!

{Kansas Family Portraits} Emily + Nathan's Family
I photographed this sweet little lady nearly a year ago .... but am just getting around to sharing these sweet baby portraits. Sheesh! It's been a crazy year! Miss C is just beautiful, and oh so kissable!
Dads don't typically have a request during baby portrait sessions, but Nathan wanted a photo of the whole family, which includes 2 dogs and some chickens. The dogs weren't very obedient until the chicken was in the picture, and all of a sudden, they were VERY willing to pay attention ... to the chicken. ;)

This is sweet, kissable Mr. C! Oh how sweet he was at just 1 week old! :) (and aren't those lips just kissable?????)
A little moody light. Love!
Big brother enjoyed playing with his trains during most of our session. :)
He's pretty good at snuggling with mom.
And Daddy kisses are just the best!

Some family snuggle time .... which isn't easy with a big brother who is almost 2 years old!

{Wichita Baby Photography} Baby Cash
Ahhh, this is our fabulous graphic designer, Amy. I spent some time with her family a few weeks back to welcome their first son, Cash. He's a super-sweet little boy.
We missed Daddy Matt for the pregnancy portraits, but it was fantastic that he was able to join us for the baby pix.
Big sis, Lauren, loves all over him, of course. :)

There was such beautiful window light in the master bedroom ... and I can't get enough of these in beautiful Black & White.
In a perfect world, Baby Cash would've slept through the bulk of our session. Cash, however, had other plans. So we just went with it.
See? So close to sleeping, but not quite.
All baby toes are insanely kissable.
A quick image of Big Sis, Lauren. Again, love the B&W here. :)

{Salina Newborn Photography} Jamaca + Maddox
You will recognize Maddox from our portrait shoot with his cousins. :) At 4 months old, he's super-cute.
Mommy wanted a few with little boy and a big tie. Of course, when you're 4 months old, you're more interested in chewing on the tie than in wearing it.
Or in chewing on your fingers. :)
Don't his eyes just melt your heart?

I couldn't decide which of these I liked better.
These "Mommy & Me" pictures just melt my heart. Especially since our boys are about the same age (heck, they're the same size!), I so want a few photos of myself w/ Baby Brooks like these. :)
Just too, too sweet.

{Personal} Baby Brooks
Good heavens! It's been a busy summer.
This is my little fella, Brooks. He's super sweet. :) I didn't want Mike to corner the market on showing off his new babies (you can see them HERE, HERE and HERE). Since Mike and his wife, Angie, decided to take 2012 off and not have a baby, Erik and I stepped it up and provided one for your viewing pleasure. ;)
Spring was a little .... rough, shall we say. As I said, we had a gaggle of weddings, along with a new baby. And with the new baby came about 10 days in the hospital. Yeah, editing photos on my laptop in a hospital bed was NOT at all what I expected to be doing, but you gotta do what you gotta do!
(8 weeks - top left; 11 weeks - bottom left; 3 days - right)
Mike is crazy-ambitious and did a photo/day for baby's first year. Um .... I was not sure I could make that sort of commitment, so I've taken to weekly photos of Brooks. Seems to work better for me.
(10 weeks - top left, bottom left; 3 weeks - right)
Everyone always says "You must have TONS of photos of your baby!" Yes, this is true. But let me tell you what ELSE is true: While I desire nothing more than to look at photos of my beautiful baby all day long, we've had a lot of weddings this summer, and I have put editing the weddings ahead of editing baby photos. Hard to believe, but it's true. I didn't want our brides to be second-string.
Now that most of our weddings have concluded and I have more time on my hands, I've been able to sort through baby photos. Not ALL of them, but some of them. And I thought I'd share.
One thing that has surprised me is how much/quickly a baby changes! I would also say I'm getting way better at taking baby/newborn photos (sounds funny, but it's true! It's a skill that takes honing. With such a fabulous subject, who could resist?)

{Kansas City Baby Photography} Baby Henry

Hello, Baby Henry! He is cute, cuddly, snuggly and my new BFF.

Of course, mommy and daddy love all over him. Seriously good looking family!

Mommy Erin simply adores him.

Spending some quality time with dad.

Since dad's such a baseball fan, of COURSE Henry would have vintage baseball sheets! He's gotta learn the game from an early age. :)
DISCLAIMER: If invited to photograph your infant, I may spend in excess of 30 minutes snuggling with them. Just ask Henry. Of course, we didn't hear any complaints either. ;)
