Erin + Shane's Family Portraits

Since Shane said going to KU basketball games at Allen Fieldhouse during his years at KU, they wanted to take some portraits there.

We spent some time in the museum area, but then were off into the fieldhouse.


The progression of the mascot in the corridor caught my eye.


Forrest likes to play with Erin's bracelet. Our regular blog followers might recognize it from their wedding.


Shane used the charm bracelet to propose to Erin when the two were at TIffany & Co. in NYC. Of course, it now has a charm that says "Mom."

Sneak Peek — Erin + Shane's Family

We spent the weekend in Lawrence for a wedding, and on Friday, I met up with one of our past couples (Erin and Shane) to photograph the newest addition to their family.

Meet Forrest. He's about as cute as they come!


I'm editing through a massive amount of photos from the weekend, but wanted to quickly share these two that jumped out from Erin and Shane's portraits in Lawrence.

From this photo, you can see a bit of the nursery. Can anyone guess who was in charge of decor? ;)

Happy Anniversary, Erin + Shane!

Last year, Mike and I had an amazing time in Lawrence on the KU campus photographing Erin and Shane's wedding.

Recently, we were saddened to hear Shane's grandmother passed away. Erin quickly wrote, asking for a specific photograph of his grandmother. Evidently it was the most recent professional photo that was taken, and I was all too happy to quickly have prints made and sent to the family. Sometimes, I need this little reminder that we're capturing such very precious memories. Not just of the bride and groom, but of other loved ones. In this family's case, they'll look back on the photo of their grandmother from Erin and Shane's wedding with such fond memories of the day.

I remember so vividly taking that image during Erin and Shane's first dance. They were sharing a beautiful moment as husband and wife, and I happened to turn and see his grandmother, just grinning with such joy.

Of course, our stamp of approval on the back. :) It isn't often that we get to see our logo without color ... but it looks supremely classy. :)

Erin + Shane's wedding slideshow

Two weeks ago we were in Lawrence for Erin and Shane's wedding. It was their idea to photograph near Potter Lake, a landmark on the KU campus. And since we were already on campus for their ceremony inside Danforth Chapel, it only made sense that we spend some time at the lake. They were so accommodating throughout the day; they even agreed to sit in the slightly damp grass for this dramatic portrait, easily my favorite from their day. Erin + Shane's Rock Chalk Wedding preview

Karen and I spent this past weekend in Lawrence for Erin and Shane's wedding. They were married in Danforth Chapel on the University of Kansas campus, where Shane graduated from the School of Pharmacy. The chapel is located near the student union, which made for a fantastic location for some romantic bridal portraits!


We scouted the union and its architecture prior to the rehearsal on Friday. In the event of rain, these arches were part of our Plan B. Thankfully, the rain passed and the sky cleared but we still managed to use this location to make this stunning portrait of our beautiful bride!


To get to the chapel, the bridal party and guests met at the reception site and boarded a bus. We thought this was an incredibly kind service for Erin and Shane to provide their guests considering parking is tight around the chapel.


A Tiffany bracelet that Shane used in his proposal accented Erin's bouquet.


Shane wipes a tear from Erin's cheek during the ceremony. Later, at the reception, Shane told me, "I've got a great girl."


Shane escorts his new bride through a cascade of bubbles as they leave the chapel.


A wrought iron decoration proved to be a great prop for shooting a detail of their wedding rings.


Lastly, these two images are two of my favorites from the day. Shane suggested shooting near the KU World War II Campanile, a KU landmark that his ancestors had a hand in constructing. We spent some time there before capturing my favorite image of the day near Potter Lake. You'll have to wait to see it, though, as I'm saving it for another post. ;)

As hard as it might be for this pair of K-Staters to admit, we had a great time in Lawrence photographing Erin and Shane's wedding. Thanks so much for inviting us to share in your special day! Check back soon to see their slideshow. -Mike

Erin + Shane's engagement slideshow

I photographed Erin and Shane's engagement photos last Saturday at Sedgwick County Park. Typically I'd shy away from parks but since they enjoy fishing we spent a couple of hours at a few locations overlooking the fishing areas. And wouldn't you know? My favorite image from the shoot wasn't even near the lake but in a field of wild prairie grass.
