{KU Engagement Portraits} Meghan + Brock

Because they met in Lawrence, Meghan and Brock wanted to take their engagement pictures on KU's campus. Despite the rainy days preceding their session, it was beautiful when we met at the Campanile to start their session.

Even though they said they tend to be "a little nervous" in front of the camera, these two are just so comfortable and relaxed with each other .... it's perfection.

We concluded our session with some completely delicious sunlight ... the day could not have been more perfect! We're looking forward to a stunning fall wedding!

From almost the first time Brittany and I talked, she was enthusiastic about having engagement photos in Lawrence. IN Allen Field House. As die-hard KU fans, she and Cory have been to a plethora of games, including Late Night at the Phog.


We set a date and Brittany did a TON of legwork to get the necessary approval for us to go into the Phog for some portraits.


Of course, we took some outside ... and in one of my favorite locations in the hallway.


I just adore seeing the progression of KU's mascot through the years.


Next, we headed out on campus.


SO beautiful!


We also made a stop at The Oread Hotel, where Brittany and Cory were staying. Gotta love the observation deck (far right). Then we headed downtown.


We found this location COMPLETELY by accident, but I love it!


Of course, a few downtown.


With such a fabulous couple, Mike and I wish their wedding were next week, not in the fall. :)

Ashley + Tyson's wedding slideshow

What can we really say about Ashley and Tyson except that we "LOVE" them?!!

Seriously, we had the best time hanging out with them for the wedding two weekends ago in Lawrence. There were so many charming details - including Ashley wearing her grandmother's pearls and Tyson wearing his grandfather's cuff links. Their affinity for each other was on full display as we toured Lawrence making some romantic portraits, including this found graffiti along Mississippi Street. (Interestingly, as we were shooting this, another bridal party drove by. We're pretty sure they copied our idea but there's no way they had as much fun as we did!)

Sneak Peek — Ashley + Tyson's wedding

Ashley and Tyson were married Saturday during a charming ceremony at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. Karen met up with Ashley and her bridesmaids to photograph them during hair (at Salon Di Marco) and makeup (at Lemon Bliss Day Spa in The Oread Hotel). This is such beautifully classic portrait of Ashley.


At the same time, I was hanging out with Tyson. Here, he looks out the window of his room at The Oread Hotel while talking last-minute details before the ceremony.


Their ceremony was short and sweet and witnessed by scores of their best friends and family. Ashley shared a smile with Tyson as they lit their unity candle.


As they left the church to an awaiting 1955 Plymouth Belvedere convertible, they were showered with a cascade of bubbles.


Ashley snagged a bottle of bubbles for the getaway ride — a drive down Mass Street.


Even though Ashley and Tyson agreed to see each other before the ceremony, it wasn't until after that we were able to spend some time creating some romantic portraits for them. We steered clear of anything overly "Jayhawk," per Tyson's request, but didn't hesitate for a moment when Ashley said she wanted to visit The Campanile.


Ashley and Tyson had rented a trolley to drive us around following the ceremony and invited their wedding party to come with us. While they weren't in every photo we made sure they were included in a few frames, including this one near The Sandbar, a favorite hangout of the bride and groom.

There are a lot of other fantastic images to share from this past weekend's wedding, and I wanted to show them here, but we'll save those for the slide show, which should be ready in another week or so. -Mike

Erin + Shane's wedding slideshow

Two weeks ago we were in Lawrence for Erin and Shane's wedding. It was their idea to photograph near Potter Lake, a landmark on the KU campus. And since we were already on campus for their ceremony inside Danforth Chapel, it only made sense that we spend some time at the lake. They were so accommodating throughout the day; they even agreed to sit in the slightly damp grass for this dramatic portrait, easily my favorite from their day. Erin + Shane's Rock Chalk Wedding preview

Karen and I spent this past weekend in Lawrence for Erin and Shane's wedding. They were married in Danforth Chapel on the University of Kansas campus, where Shane graduated from the School of Pharmacy. The chapel is located near the student union, which made for a fantastic location for some romantic bridal portraits!


We scouted the union and its architecture prior to the rehearsal on Friday. In the event of rain, these arches were part of our Plan B. Thankfully, the rain passed and the sky cleared but we still managed to use this location to make this stunning portrait of our beautiful bride!


To get to the chapel, the bridal party and guests met at the reception site and boarded a bus. We thought this was an incredibly kind service for Erin and Shane to provide their guests considering parking is tight around the chapel.


A Tiffany bracelet that Shane used in his proposal accented Erin's bouquet.


Shane wipes a tear from Erin's cheek during the ceremony. Later, at the reception, Shane told me, "I've got a great girl."


Shane escorts his new bride through a cascade of bubbles as they leave the chapel.


A wrought iron decoration proved to be a great prop for shooting a detail of their wedding rings.


Lastly, these two images are two of my favorites from the day. Shane suggested shooting near the KU World War II Campanile, a KU landmark that his ancestors had a hand in constructing. We spent some time there before capturing my favorite image of the day near Potter Lake. You'll have to wait to see it, though, as I'm saving it for another post. ;)
