Ahhhh, this album is poetry. Pure poetry!

This is one of our American Designer Storybook Albums. These come with a beautiful linen case, with the album cover printed/adhered onto the case. It's simply breathtaking.


And speaking of breathtaking, the color reproduction on this paper ... simply STUNNING!!!!


I'm honestly not sure if most wedding/portrait photographers get quite as excited as I do about color reproduction (makes me sound like a giant dork, right?), but let me tell you why I do.

Back in our newspaper days, we photographers would say "our art is printed on glorified toilet paper." Don't get me wrong, there's nothing really WRONG with newsprint. It's plenty fine. But when you see your images printed on white felt paper ... let me just say it is fancy.

{Anniversary} Andrea + Larry

One year ago, Karen and I spent a weekend in Manhattan documenting Andrea and Larry's wedding. It was a splendid affair with gorgeous weather, a vintage dress, an antique truck and the best groomsman's toast we've ever heard. :) Andrea and Larry have a lot to celebrate on their one-year anniversary: They became parents in March to a beautiful baby boy, nicknamed for blog purposes as "Baby K."

{Wedding Album Design} Andrea + Larry

As former photojournalists, Mike and I love a good story. When we spied Larry in cahoots with one of the bridesmaids during their wedding rehearsal, we went to see what was going on. And our nosing in worked!

We found out Larry was going to sing a special song for Andrea. But Andrea knew nothing about the song. It was a complete surprise. So we found out when he'd be breaking into song, and figured out the best locations to be .... and really nailed Andrea's shocked reaction! :) (Yes, Andrea. We confess, we knew. But because we wanted it to be a complete surprise, we didn't breathe a word. Hope you won't hold it against us!).

Andrea + Larry's wedding slide show

Sneak Peek — Andrea + Larry's wedding

Karen and I are feverishly sorting through the images from Andrea and Larry's truly fantastic wedding this past weekend in Manhattan! Andrea was all smiles all day!


She was very excited to see Larry during their "First Look." The "First Look" works well for many of our couples because in that it still allows for an element of surprise while freeing up more time for romantic portraits later in the day.


After the ceremony, we took Larry's '54 Chevy for a spin around Manhattan. (Those of you who regularly follow our blog know I can't resist a good classic automobile!) Larry finished restoring the truck this spring, just in time for the couple's May Day wedding.


I'll share a few ceremony photos to close this post. The last few father/daughter moments right before Andrea walked down the aisle in her mother's wedding dress. Andrea's parents celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary just 2 days after Andrea and Larry wed.


Andrea's wedding gift to Larry was a new guitar (he proposed to her via a song he wrote). And he surprised Andrea by singing "If There Hadn't Been You" by Billy Dean toward the end of the Wedding Mass.


It's safe to say she was surprised.

Andrea + Larry's Engagement Album

For Andrea and Larry's engagement album, we switched things up a little bit.


We went with some thicker pages for them.





With thicker pages comes a thicker binding.


The "new" version of the engagement album is on the left ... thicker pages. The "traditional/original" is on the right. See what a difference? Our original ones are made with a regular paper, much like the paper in a photographic book you'd buy at the bookstore.


I wanted to order one of each of the exact same book so we could see a side-by-side comparison.

And now I'm wondering if there's a place in our offerings for the "original/traditional" books. So ... clients ... what do you think? Do you want to see only a thick page offered? Or would you like the option of the thin pages? Let's hear your feedback so we can best serve your needs.

Andrea + Larry's Engagement

Siiiiiiigh. This photo from Andrea and Larry's engagement session makes me *happy* in every way possible. Not only is it cute and playful (two extremely applicable words for these two), but it incorporates the letters from Upwords.


Why do I care about the letters from Upwords? Weeeeeell, because Larry cleverly used the letters to propose to Andrea. :) He gave her the board and a letter or two, and told her she'd receive a letter every time they had a date or spent time together. Over the course of 3 weeks, Andrea slowly started putting the pieces together.


The session took place at Larry's land just outside of Manhattan. True to small-town style, one of the neighbors stopped by during the session. Not to inquire about the stranger at the house, but to express his excitement because he just heard about the engagement and wanted to stop in and say hi.

SO, in the above photo, you can see we incorporated one of the antique-ish farm implements from the farm for the session. Classic. One of a kind. SO unique to Andrea and Larry.

It was fantastic to reconnect with Andrea. Mike and I first met her at Lori and Derek's wedding in April. Andrea was an immense help to us. She was probably the best helper we've had to help wrangle family members during group portraits.
