Last week, I found myself again on assignment at Sacred Heart Cathedral for an ordination. Working for Doug at The Register is always a nice change of pace.
Of course, it's been awhile since I've had a newspaper assignment, so I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I forgot how quickly the turnaround and deadline is. So it was Monday morning (if I photograph on a Saturday, I generally take off Sunday and Monday). I was standing in my garden, decked out in my stylin' gardening galoshes, watering my plants (from our rain barrel) when I remembered DOUG NEEDS PHOTOS BY NOON.
I had done most of the editing over the weekend, and had to add some caption information, and all was well.
Above is one of my absolute FAVORITE photos from the day. I smile every time I see it, because how many times have I seen a kiddo try to hijack communion? Many. But this is the first time I've actually captured it with my camera.

Part of being a photojournalist is showing up early ... and when you do, there are these quiet little moments, like Fr. Jarett blessing Deacon Joshua ... I just love capturing these quiet little moments that not many people get to see.

I also love this photo ... but it's a bit abstract. In the foreground is the stole Fr. Joshua wore as a deacon. When he was robed as a priest, it was placed on the communion rail ... and so I captured this image of the stole in the foreground (the old life) and in the background, Fr. Joshua is participating in the consecration for the first time as a priest. As I said, the photo takes a bit explaining, but I like it.
Finally, please CLICK HERE to check out my highlights of the ordination.
ps-for those of you curious about the music used in this slideshow, you may check it out by CLICKING HERE. A very good friend of mine who attends St. Mary gave me the CD ... and I am beyond excited to witness/photograph his ordination to the diaconate in about one year!

I used to not like abstract art/pictures. But now it's completely the opposite. I love that bottom one. And capturing the moments that most people don't get to see... :) Mmmmm I love taking pictures! :)
These photos are great. And thanks for immediately posting the link for the cd....I'm downloading it from amazon right now!
