Over the weekend, I once again found myself at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina for an ordination. This one is pretty unique. Deacon Charles is from Ghana (in West Africa). The short story is he's a missionary to Kansas. Just the other night I was thinking of all of the groups that send missions to Africa, and I was thinking how interesting it is we have a missionary in our own midst. From Africa.
Sorry, sidetracked.
Msgr. Stephen Adu-Kwaning helps Deacon Charles to robe. Adu-Kwaning is from the deacon's home parish in Ghana, and it was really amazing that he was in Salina for the ordination.

Also in attendance was Sister. Mary Assumpta, who is also originally from Ghana. Her current residence is in Wisconsin, but she's another missionary to the U.S. from Africa.
This week, I've been musing over my trip to Africa a few years ago. And the areas I traveled in contained a lot of poverty. But I'll return to the "there are missions from Africa in the U.S." train of thought briefly ... while we are so fortunate in the U.S. to have many physical comforts and goods, perhaps it is we don't have the metaphysical or spiritual comforts?
Ok, I gotta hit the road, but there will be some updates over the next few days from some stellar events from this weekend in Lawrence!
