{Photojournalism} Permanent Diaconate Ordination, Diocese of Salina

Over the weekend, I returned a bit to my roots: photojournalism. I spent Saturday photographing the ordination of permanent deacons for the Diocese of Salina. There were 10 who were ordained. In my years of photographing for the diocese, I've never seen so many at one time.

The difference between these and other deacons is that these guys are (usually) older and also married. Hence, photographing the wedding ring visible with the row of albed men.

Salina has six others who were ordained permanent deacons a few years ago. The new deacons were welcomed warmly by the others.

These deacons simply assist at Mass and with other tasks as assigned by the Bishop.

It's incredible to think that the last time I was photographing at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina that I was a very pregnant 9 months at Bishop Weisenburger's ordination. Absent the big belly full of baby, it was SO much easier to maneuver around and photograph!
