{Photojournalism} Salina Marathon

A friend of mine asked if I'e be willing to help at a water station at The 3rd Annual Bob Ardrey Marathon. I'm not a runner in any sense of the word, but I have family members and many friends who participate in marathons, so I figured "Why not?"

Water station #5 at Mile #9 .. we're ready for action! It was also Mile #21 for the full marathon.

We could see a runner approaching, and as they neared, we were all "Is that a female runner in the lead?"

Yessir, it was!

First male runner ... he was ahead of the next runner by about 2 miles.

This was my first marathon, and I'm not sure if everyone smiles quite so broadly after 20 miles of running, but this woman sure was!

I'm going to close with my favorite story from the day. There were family members who came to cheer their runners on ... and there was a father with his 2 kids who were excitedly waiting for mom. She was participating in the half marathon, and was the final runner for that race.  You should have heard everyone screaming and cheering for her all the way up the hill!

After a quick hello to her husband & kids, she was off to conquer the half-marathon! It was extremely inspiring and touching to see her family cheer her on! :)

So, there you have it: my first marathon experience. If you ever have the opportunity to help at a water station, do it! It was lots of fun!
