Over the weekend, I headed back to Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina to photograph a very special event. It was the anniversary celebration for Bishop Fitzsimons. Ordained a priest in 1961, this is his Golden Anniversary as a priest.
I've photographed several ordinations for the Salina Diocesean Newspaper, and Bishop Fitzsimons has been at all of them, but I've never heard him speak/give a homily before. He's incredibly sharp-witted, and had a few zingers that still have me giggling (after being presented with a "spiritual bouquet" of prayers, he quipped "With all of these prayers, I just might get to heaven yet.").
