Sassy!

That's just one word to describe last night's engagement session with Cristina and Josh. The shoes say it all, don't they? ;)

One more photo for now. I have a TON of editing to do!

Calling Class of 2010!!!!!

Shauna + James' Wedding Album IS IN!!!!!!!

Seeing double? Yup! Since Shauna and James opted to add pages to their spectacular wedding album, I wanted to give them a little "thank you" gift. (It'll be easier to stick in your purse and show off at work than the big album, Shauna!)

Isn't the 5x5 size ADORABLE!??!??!?? :)

It was in a few weeks ago (before their anniversary) but I've been busy and am catching up on blogging, OK?)

An exact copy, but half the size. Cute!

Opening page ... lovely!

Even with more elaborate design, it still rocks at a 5x5 size!

Fr. Joshua's Ordination

Last week, I found myself again on assignment at Sacred Heart Cathedral for an ordination. Working for Doug at The Register is always a nice change of pace.

Of course, it's been awhile since I've had a newspaper assignment, so I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I forgot how quickly the turnaround and deadline is. So it was Monday morning (if I photograph on a Saturday, I generally take off Sunday and Monday). I was standing in my garden, decked out in my stylin' gardening galoshes, watering my plants (from our rain barrel) when I remembered DOUG NEEDS PHOTOS BY NOON.

I had done most of the editing over the weekend, and had to add some caption information, and all was well.

Above is one of my absolute FAVORITE photos from the day. I smile every time I see it, because how many times have I seen a kiddo try to hijack communion? Many. But this is the first time I've actually captured it with my camera.

Part of being a photojournalist is showing up early ... and when you do, there are these quiet little moments, like Fr. Jarett blessing Deacon Joshua ... I just love capturing these quiet little moments that not many people get to see.

I also love this photo ... but it's a bit abstract. In the foreground is the stole Fr. Joshua wore as a deacon. When he was robed as a priest, it was placed on the communion rail ... and so I captured this image of the stole in the foreground (the old life) and in the background, Fr. Joshua is participating in the consecration for the first time as a priest. As I said, the photo takes a bit explaining, but I like it.

Finally, please CLICK HERE to check out my highlights of the ordination.

ps-for those of you curious about the music used in this slideshow, you may check it out by CLICKING HERE. A very good friend of mine who attends St. Mary gave me the CD ... and I am beyond excited to witness/photograph his ordination to the diaconate in about one year!

Baby Kara

On Friday, I had the pleasure of heading to Hutchinson to photograph Darren and Michelle's adorable daughter, Kara.

Isn't this nursery fantastic? Yes, the color is our Heartland green, but it's *just* a coincidence ... I SWEAR!!!! ;)

Isn't this a fantastic mother/daughter snuggle? I just ADORE this photo!

Our regular blog readers might think the faces are familiar, and you are right .... Darren is Lori's brother. I think little Kara gets her eyes from her daddy's side of the family. She has the same eyes as Daddy Darren and Auntie Lori.

Of course, having your portrait taken is tough work, even for a 10-week old.

Aaaaaaaand, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Darren and Michelle's fur baby, Abby. She was full of wiggles and kisses.

Now it's time to show off a stellar slideshow of the session. Please CLICK HERE to enjoy your slideshow!

Happy Anniversary, Shauna + James!

A year ago, Mike and I spent the day in Newton documenting Shauna and James' wedding. Shauna had been planning their 06-07-08 wedding for a LONG time, and the day went beautifully!

Please CLICK HERE for a slideshow from their special day.

Workshop in July

A brief note to our photographer friends who read our blog: We'll be hosting a business workshop at Karen's Residential Studio in Salina. The dates are July 15 & 16. Please CLICK HERE for more information, as well as to sign up online.

We've had some awesome friends host some fantastic workshops, and now we're happy to take our turn as host.

Every once in awhile, we need to pause and re-focus. As artists, it's easy to let these things slip. But I look forward to seeing some familiar faces in a few weeks. :)
